The Holland Bulb Salesmen

When we think of Holland we think of tulips and broad-beamed Dutchmen in baggy trousers smoking clay pipes; or pink-cheeked children in wooden shoes; or quaint-looking women “lace caps and full skirts carefully polishing whitewashed doorsteps”. And we were saddened to learn of the rape of the Low Countries, and the flooding of the rich farm lands by the Germans. We also mourned when we heard that tulips were being fed to cattle, or used on the table in place of potatoes.
